Course Review:

This course was one of the flattest races I have ever ran. The entire race was mostly through neighborhood roads and flat sidewalks which was very nice. The backdrop to the beginning of the race was the water on your left as you were winding around a park where the race first starts. Then the course takes you through the streets of Coronado where the entire lane was blocked off, so there was never any issues with cars. At around 3 miles there was a turnaround point, but it wasn't just a cone in the road. Instead it was a long, wide turn that took you very close to the water and the next half mile or so was right along a boardwalk on the water. The course then joined up with where the beginning of the course ran, almost like a lollipop route.  The only aspect of this course I disliked, was running the same 4 miles of the course, just backwards. I would have liked more of a loop than a lollipop route, but that is just my opinion on how I like to run. At the end of the race, you run up a grassy lawn which was roped off so you knew where to run. Then you turn back onto a straightaway for about .2 miles and you run to the finish. The turns were all very well marked and there were plenty of people with flags to let you know where to go. The water stops were also well marked and there were many volunteers, at the water stop at the turnaround around mile 3.

Race Atmosphere Review:

Let me tell you, there is not many places better than California when it comes to road races. They love to run and they love to put on races for the community. The atmosphere of this race from the beginning was wonderful. I guess you could say everyone was in a loving mood considering it was around Valentine's Day. The one mile fun run was before the 10k and a few hundred of the 10k runners all lined up along the finishing straight away to help cheer on the 4-10 year olds who were sprinting down the street. It was a wonderful start to the race and lightens everybody's mood. The volunteers were all very excited to be there and the MC made sure the runners knew where to go, but also were having a good time. At the end of the race, they were announcing finishers and where they were from, which is always nice. At the end of the race, everyone received a finishers medal which was very well done. A T-shirt was also provided before the race.

Post Race Food and Drink Review:

The post race food and drink at this race definitely ranks in the top 3 for best variety and quality. The first item that you could get was Powerbar's Performance Energy Blends both in Apple/Strawberry and Blueberry/Banana. They were delicious and was easy to get down after a medium distance race. Next, there was muscle milk in both chocolate and vanilla flavors. For food, there was a local bakery serving small brownies and tastes of their chocolate cake. There was also Promax Energy Bars and I had Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough flavor which was delicious. More drinks included Red Bull and Vita Coco Coconut Water. The best aspect of the post race party was definitely the Naked Juice truck. They were serving out multiple flavors of their juice, and were also printing handmade t-shirts for all the runners. You could choose four symbols such as fire, family, earth, love, nature, money etc. and they would line them up and print it on your Naked Juice t-shirt. How cool is that! And it was all free too!
